Self Drive Tours

Kalatha Giants

2.5 hours form Melbourne (45 minutes from Healesville) this magnificent forest is home to some of the tallest trees on the planet. You will need to drive on 18 km of well graded dirt road.  A sign post on Sylvia Creek Road points to "Kalatha Giant".  As you drive into the valley of the Giants you will find a car park marking the entrance to the boardwalk.  The board walk and track is fairly flat with some steps.  The circuit takes about 30 minutes to walk around and has several interpretative boards and you will see many large Mountain Ash trees approximately 350 years old. If you have time on the way back stop off at the Wirrawilla Rain Forest walk see below.

WirraWilla Rain Forest Walk

2 hours from Melbourne (30 minutes from Healesville) is a magnificent example of a Gondwana rain forest.  There is about 8 km of well graded dirt road up Sylvia Creek Road to the car park.  The board walk is flat and winds through the rain forest and takes about 30-45 minutes to complete the circuit. Toilet facilities are available in the car park. If you have an extra 1.5 hours consider driving to see the Kalatha Giants see above
